Shuai Chang and Yaxibian followed Anseier to the mayor’s residence in Kane Town. Anseier chattered continuously along the way, not pausing for a moment. “The mayor will definitely arrange the best room for His Holiness, the Saint Child. Will you both stay here until the last patient is cured?”
Yaxibian nodded. “Of course.”
“Your Holiness, where will you go next?”
Shuai Chang answered for Yaxibian, “Krumlov.”
Anseier exclaimed excitedly, “Is it Krumlov in the Holy Roman Empire? It’s a sacred place for fire mages! Your Holiness, can I go with you?”
Yaxibian instinctively looked at Shuai Chang, who was confused. Yaxibian withdrew his gaze and replied gently, “Sure, but the plague in Krumlov is also severe; it might be dangerous.”
“Don’t worry, Your Holiness! I won’t slow you down at all, and Sir Austin is so capable!”
“I won’t be concerned about you.” Shuai Chang interrupted him coldly.
Anseier’s face turned awkwardly red. “I—I can protect myself,” he explained softly, looking as if he hadn’t given up on the idea of traveling with them.
Yaxibian felt a bit sweet for some reason.
Anseier stopped his chattering, and they quietly arrived at the mayor’s residence in Kane Town.
It was a large stone house. Anseier knocked on the door, and soon someone came to open it. “Oh, Anseier! What’s the matter?”
“Aunt Ruth, is Uncle Alje at home? I brought His Holiness the Saint Child to see him.”
“Your Holiness?” Ruth exclaimed in surprise as she fully opened the door and stepped out. Seeing Yaxibian and Shuai Chang standing nearby, she joyfully approached them. “Your Holiness, please come in. Alje has been eagerly waiting for you!”
They entered the stone house, and Ruth invited them to sit, placing cups filled with red fruit juice in front of them. “Uncle Alje is taking a nap; I’ll go wake him. Please wait a moment, Your Holiness and Sir Knight.”
Ruth turned and went to the inner room.
Before Yaxibian could ask, Anseier spoke, “The mayor is my father’s brother. My parents passed away when I was very young, and I’ve been living with my uncle and aunt ever since. I moved out to live on my own after reaching adulthood.” His eyes were filled with nostalgia.
Yaxibian looked at him with compassion. “May the God of Light bless them; they must be living well in heaven.”
Mayor Alje soon entered the room. He looked to be in his thirties and also had red hair.
Alje greeted Yaxibian with a beaming smile. “Your Holiness, the residents of Kane Town have been looking forward to your arrival.”
“Your Excellency, Mayor. I heard from Anseier that those infected with the plague are concentrated in the outskirts. What is the situation now?”
Alje sighed. “Our town has a total population of three thousand four hundred and fifty. There are over five hundred infected, most of whom caught it from their families. Their skin is rotting little by little; drinking the Holy See’s Light Spring can suppress it slightly, but it’s not very effective. Unfortunately, over a hundred people have already died from the plague. Thankfully, Your Holiness has come; your light power can dispel all evils, and they will surely survive.”
“Your Holiness and Sir Knight must be tired from the journey. I had Ruth prepare a room for you. Rest well today, and tomorrow morning we can go to the outskirts to see the patients together.”
Yaxibian nodded in thanks.
Anseier spoke a few more words with Alje before leaving, planning to go with them to the outskirts the next day.
Ruth arranged two adjacent rooms, and Shuai Chang said, “I will stay in the same room as His Holiness.”
Ruth showed a surprised expression.
Yaxibian explained, “Austin will protect me closely; he is my… guardian knight.” He felt slightly embarrassed.
Ruth smiled knowingly. “It’s my fault for not asking clearly.”
After leaving food and water, Ruth departed. Shuai Chang used a green silk ribbon to tie up Yaxibian’s golden hair, exposing his fair ears.
Shuai Chang’s rough fingers passed through Yaxibian’s hair, sending a shiver down Yaxibian’s body. He bit his rosy lower lip, trying to suppress any strange sounds that might escape due to the pleasant sensation.
Once Shuai Chang finished tying his hair, a charming blush spread across Yaxibian’s beautiful, pale face.
Shuai Chang sat down opposite Yaxibian and handed him a piece of sandwich.
Yaxibian accepted it. Austin was his first guardian knight, and he wasn’t sure how they should interact, wondering if their earlier closeness was too intimate.
Yaxibian took a bite of the sandwich filled with ham, eggs, and vegetables; it tasted great.
“Is it good?” Shuai Chang asked.
Yaxibian, with his clear eyes, looked at him and nodded slightly.
“After you finish, I will borrow a wooden tub from Mayor Alje and boil some water for you to take a bath,” Shuai Chang announced.
After saying this, he quickly finished a piece of sandwich and went out to find the mayor.
Austin’s physical body had already died; he couldn’t digest anything he consumed.
Shuai Chang placed the bath tub in the other room that Ruth had prepared, which shared a wall with the other room. He pushed the door open, and Yaxibian looked over in surprise.
Shuai Chang smiled, “Your Holiness, the hot water is ready.”
Yaxibian nodded and approached Shuai Chang seriously. “Austin, you can just call me Yaxibian,” Yaxibian said, feeling nervous as he dropped his gaze, his golden eyelashes trembling. “Or you can call me by my nickname, Yaxi.”
Shuai Chang couldn’t help but reach out to touch Yaxibian’s fair cheek; the texture was smooth, making his heart race.
Yaxibian became even more anxious, his face turning redder. Shuai Chang softly called out, “Yaxi,” his hoarse voice vibrating in Yaxibian’s ears.
In a fluster, Yaxibian hurried to the bath tub, saying, “Austin, I’m going to take a bath now.”
Shuai Chang stopped teasing him and stepped out of the room, closing the door behind him.
If he were not currently in Austin’s spirit form, his true self would surely explode with embarrassment.
